The Psychology of Pitching
Perceptions are created in just seven seconds.
You may have a brilliant idea, however if you are not leveraging various aspects of influential communication you will fall short and you will miss out on opportunities. Regardless of how great your concept may be.
When we study the psychology of influence; how to create connection, buy-in, believability, trust and motivate others to follow our lead it is not what we are saying, but how we are saying it that is a key determining factor on if we land our pitch or not.
Simply put, there is a strong relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication and the psychology of perception: who we are as individuals, our ideas, our strengths, what we bring to the table and also our weaknesses are unmasked in these nuances.
Hillary Wicht is a voice and presence expert who has been tapped as a specialist by the Wall Street Journal for her work on the impact of gender communication styles in the corporate sector and the Stanford Entrepreneurial Graduate Program on the psychology of pitching. In this experiential discussion, she will unveil the ways in which individuals unknowingly give up their power through the way they communicate. She will uncover the most common “power-leaks” in communication styles and give insights and tools for communication “power-plays,” so you can leverage various elements of verbal and non-verbal communication to strategically influence those that matter.
