Attention Whisky Lovers — The Last Drop is here with The Double Mature 50 Year.
If you’ve ever wondered how we’ve amassed a collection of $3,000+ whiskies, you probably haven’t attended a Big Bottle Night (BBN). Think of it like a Kickstarter for whisky; members commit to an ounce at a discount to the eventual menu price. If enough members commit, we buy the bottle.
On October 27th, a representative of The Last Drop will be in town with their latest release: The Double Matured 50 Year. All 5 of the bottles we have brought in from them have been great and this one will not disappoint either.
The whisky is 50 year old, and was originally a blend of 50 different whiskies, which aged in an ex-Bourbon barrel for 30 years. Most of the stock was released to the Asian Market as a 30 year luxury blend. However, a small amount was kept back and refilled into 7 Hogshead barrels which previously held Oloroso Sherry. It aged in those barrels for a period of 20 years (hence "double-matured') at a warehouse in the Scottish Lowlands. The whisky yielded only 898 bottles total which were bottled last year at 103.6 proof (51.8%ABV).
Jim Murray Rated this Whisky in the 2016 Whisky Bible. 97 points "Superstar Whisky" - Highest ever rating. "Scotch Blend of the Year”. "Best Blended Whisky 26-50 years”.
